Description:
Hepatitis B testing through SH.UK is done with a home STI test kit. Take your own sample, send it to our lab to be tested, then get your confidential results online.
You will need to collect a small blood sample. You prick your finger with a special needle called a lancet. Then you collect some drops of blood in the tube provided. We have lots of tips to help you collect your blood sample.
Availability: This depends on your age and where you live. Some areas have limits on how many testing kits can be sent out each day. Check the services we can offer you.
Delivery: £0.00 Free delivery in discreet plain packaging that fits through a letterbox. Only you will know what is in your parcel and who it is from.
Returning your samples is also free. Just post them back in the prepaid box.
STI Kit Cost: £0.00 (FREE)
Results: You get an email or text when your results are ready. This is usually within a few days of returning your samples. Log in to your secure, confidential SH.UK account to view your results online.
Your results will show if:
You have hepatitis B now
You have had hepatitis B in the past
You have never had hepatitis B
Treatment: If you test positive for hepatitis B, we will refer you to a free NHS service for support to manage the virus. For most people, hepatitis B goes away without treatment in a few weeks or months. For some people, hepatitis B stays in the body for 6 months or longer and needs treatment and regular check-ups.
Consultation: Our simple online consultation will check if a free home hepatitis B test kit is right for you. We may also offer you other STI tests. These may need different samples, such as a urine sample or vaginal swab.

Will recommend to everyone who needs a Sexual Health Test and treatment. "Derek"Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis B is a virus that can damage the liver. It can be passed on during sex without a condom or through blood-to-blood contact, for example by sharing drug injecting equipment
- Hepatitis B is not common in the UK. If you have a higher chance of getting it, a hepatitis B vaccination can help protect you
- Many people with hepatitis B won’t notice anything wrong, so a test is the only way to know if you have it
- Hepatitis B usually goes away on its own, but some people may need treatment to help manage any symptoms
- If hepatitis C is not treated early, it can end up causing serious liver problems which can damage your health and may even cause death.
- In some people, hepatitis B lasts for 6 months or more. This is called chronic hepatitis B and can be treated and managed with regular check-ups
- If chronic hepatitis B is not managed effectively it can lead to serious liver damage
- If you have hepatitis B, your sexual partners and people you live with need to get tested too, and may need treatment or a hepatitis B vaccination
Who should get a hepatitis B test?
You may need a hepatitis B test if you:
- Are from a part of the world with high rates of hepatitis B
- Have hepatitis B symptoms
- Have had sex with someone with hepatitis B
- Are pregnant
- Have multiple sexual partners
- Have had an STI (sexually transmitted infection) before
- Have HIV or hepatitis C
- Have an abnormal liver enzyme test
- Inject illegal drugs
- Have kidney dialysis
- Take medication that suppresses the immune system
- Take pre-exposure prophylaxis or post exposure prophylaxis for HIV
An SH.UK home hepatitis B test will tell you if you have hepatitis B now or have had it in the past. The test can’t tell whether you are immune to hepatitis B due to vaccination. A blood test at a sexual health clinic or GP will be able to tell you this.
When should I get a hepatitis B test?
If you have hepatitis B symptoms or a sexual partner has hepatitis B, get tested straight away. You may be able to order a free home testing kit or you may be referred to a local sexual health service.
It can take from 3 to 6 months for hepatitis B to show up on a test, so:
If you have no symptoms but think you have been exposed to hepatitis B, then do a test 3 months after the exposure and another test 6 months after the exposure.
If you're not sure when or if you've been exposed to hepatitis B, you can test now, then test again 3 months and 6 months after the first test.
Check if you can order a free home testing kit to check for hepatitis B and other STIs.
