Will recommend to everyone who needs a Sexual Health Test and treatment. "Derek"Gonorrhoea
- Gonorrhoea is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI)
- Around 1 in 10 men and almost half of women with the infection do not notice any gonorrhoea symptoms, so a gonorrhoea test is the only way to check if you have it
- Gonorrhoea is usually quick and easy to cure with a single antibiotic injection – but some types of gonorrhoea can be resistant to antibiotics, so it’s important to get treatment from a sexual health clinic
- You will need a follow-up test to check the treatment has worked.
- If it’s not treated early, gonorrhoea can spread to other parts of the body and may sometimes lead to painful or serious complications that may affect your fertility
- If you have gonorrhoea, your sexual partners need to get tested too, and may need treatment
Who should get a gonorrhoea test?
If you are sexually active, it's a good idea to get tested for gonorrhoea and other STIs once a year. You may need to test more regularly if you:
- Notice any gonorrhoea symptoms
- Have sex without a condom with a new sexual partner or have multiple sexual partners
- Have another STI, or a sexual partner has an STI
- Someone who injects drugs and shares equipment
- Are pregnant or planning to get pregnant
When should I get a gonorrhoea test
If you have gonorrhoea symptoms or a sexual partner has gonorrhoea, get tested straight away, You may be able to order a free home testing kit or you may be referred to a local sexual health service.
If you have no symptoms, you can test straight away if you want to. But the test is likely to be more accurate if you wait until 2 weeks after you last had sex. This is because it can take time for gonorrhoea to show up on a test.
Check if you can order a free home testing kit.
